Supercell has been releasing a lot of new hero cards lately, which isn’t too surprising since they’re still pretty new. Goblins is one of the best cards to pick for this since it doesn’t see a lot of play normally, so I’m excited to see it come out so quick. In this article, I’ll take a look at how to play heroic Goblins in general, then we’ll look at three great decks featuring them!
How to Play Heroic Goblins
Heroic Ability – Banner Brigade (1 Elixir): The last goblin standing drops a banner that calls in reinforcements.
Heroic Goblins might just be the easiest hero upgrade to explain. When you first play them, they’re the same as always. You get 4 goblins for just 2 Elixir, which isn’t too bad. However, it’s also not that great. The normal Goblins haven’t really been meta in a long time, even while other Goblin cards have been. But the new hero upgrade has greatly increased their popularity. The Banner Brigade ability basically lets you have a second copy of Goblins after the first group dies. The banner they drop behind spawns in 4 extra Goblins for just 1 extra Elixir, which is fantastic. This is great for any situation where Goblins are good in general, almost doubling their usefulness. It’s a simple upgrade, but one of the best so far for the hero cards. Arguably the best.
Royal Hogs Spam

Cards:
- Royal Hogs (Evo)
- Royal Ghost (Evo)
- Goblins (Hero)
- Magic Archer
- Lightning
- Goblin Hut
- Electro Spirit
- Barbarian Barrel
This deck is all about applying pressure. Royal Hogs are the main win con here, with Royal Ghost as the second evo to help defend. The Hogs are easily one of the best win cons right now since they’re so fast and difficult to counter, especially when evolved. Their flying capabilities let them get past almost everything, and the tower damage is consistently high. Royal Ghost is one of the best defensive evolutions you can use right now, so it pretty much explains itself.
The Goblins really stand out as a good pick here since they go well with the aggressive nature of the deck. The banner they leave behind is great for applying consistent pressure or defending in a pinch, so they’re hard to pass up on. Magic Archer is also here as a super long range defender that can even do some solid tower damage in the right situations. If you have the second hero slot then Wizard is the better option here, but Magic Archer does cost 1 less and has longer range. The rest of this deck is mostly focused on defense, as the Hogs handle almost all of the offense this deck needs. Goblin Hut fits the theme of the deck while providing solid defense, and Lightning is great for countering mid-HP troops.
As with most Royal Hogs decks, aggression is the name of the game here. Be as aggressive as possible, while leaving some combination of Royal Ghost, Goblins, and Magic Archer for primary defense.
Royal Giant Bridge Spam

Cards:
- Royal Giant (Evo)
- Royal Ghost (Evo)
- Goblin (Hero)
- Hunter
- Fisherman
- Fireball
- Electro Spirit
- Barbarian Barrel
Over the years, Royal Ghost has been one of the best win cons in Clash Royale. This particular deck (with a different card in place of Goblins historically) has also been in the top of the meta for a really long time. Royal Giant is best played by just dropping it right on the bridge and letting it go crazy. It almost always gets at least a hit or two in unless countered with a building or faster DPS troop like Mini P.E.K.K.A., so it’s extremely dangerous. You also don’t have to worry about swarms when evolved, which makes it even better. Then Royal Ghost is the second evolution, as its DPS is strong for defending.
Since this deck has a pretty expensive elixir cost, having a card like Goblins is excellent for defending. They can handle most ground troops (or at least distract them), and the banner ability makes them much more difficult to counter. Cards like The Log or Zap no longer counter Goblins since you can just spawn another wave of them. That being said, this deck does have multiple options for defense. Hunter is great for countering tanks since it does very high single-shot damage, and Fisherman is good against fast win cons like Hog Rider and Ram Rider. In terms of spells, this deck also has some of the best. Fireball is obviously good against almost everything since it’s just pure damage, and Barbarian Barrel counters most swarms with ease. Not much can get past this deck’s defensive line, and it’s also not weak to any particular cards or strategies.
This deck isn’t the most aggressive one, but it’s close. Spamming Royal Giant at the bridge is a pretty aggressive tactic if you can keep it up, but you can take a more passive role for a while if needed. Just make sure to keep evolutions ready for when an opportunity reveals itself.
Goblin Drill + Berserker

Cards:
- Goblin Drill (Evo)
- Tesla (Evo)
- Goblins (Hero)
- Bandit
- Goblin Berserker
- Poison
- Fire Spirit
- The Log
For this last deck, I’ve got one that’s a little less popular than the two before it. This deck features evolved Goblin Drill as the main win con, with evolved Tesla as the second evo and primary defense. Evolved Tesla, and Tesla in general really, is great at defending in most situations. All you need is one decent troop to help out and it can handle all the DPS (usually). Plus it takes out swarms naturally when evolved, so that’s one less thing to worry about. Goblin Drill isn’t nearly as popular as most other win cons, but its consistent DPS makes it worth using. It doesn’t do huge chunks of damage at once, but it applies pressures, forces a response, and can overwhelm opponents when you play the evolved version.
Goblins and Bandit are the main defensive cards to use along with Tesla. Goblins are great at causing a lot of chaos and staying on the field for a long time thanks to the heroic ability, while Bandit is good for distracting and damaging mid-HP troops. If you have the second hero slot unlocked, Knight would most likely be the best card to use instead of Bandit. The Goblin Berserker is also here to apply even more pressure along with the Drill, and it’s also the only “tank” (even though it isn’t primarily one) so it’s important. Poison and The Log are this deck’s spells, and they mostly explain themselves.
This deck is just as aggressive as the other ones. Heroic Goblins are definitely best in aggressive decks, so don’t expect to be taking it easy very often when playing them.
